The argan tree has been used for two millennia by the Berbers of which they use both the pulp to feed the animals and the hull to serve as fuel. Argan oil only appeared in the 14th century, described by an Arab doctor for its virtues, and only appeared in Europe in the 1990s.
PROPERTIES & VIRTUES
With a creamy texture, argan oil contains more than 80% unsaturated fatty acids, essential for the proper functioning of the epidermis.
Omega 6s limit water loss from the skin
Omega 9 reinforce its elasticity.
Vitamin E helps fight against cell aging.
Antioxidant and regenerating, it nourishes, protects and restores the hydrolipidic film of the skin.
It maintains the integrity of the skin tissue, acts on the permeability and restructuring of the epidermis and dermis. It promotes the healing of skin tissue and limits the development of dark spots.
Argan oil production
Once the argan is dried in the sun, the pulp can be removed after a lot of experience. There remains the shell that an expert hand must break to recover the seed (also called almond). Argan oil is obtained from the almond. It takes about 30 kilos of fruit to get a kilo of almonds and half a liter of argan oil. It is one of the most expensive oils on the market.
Ingredients of argan oil
Glycerides are the main ingredients that make up 99% of argan oil. They include triglycerides such as omega-3 and omega-6 acids, stearic acid and palmitic acid. There are also fewer polyphenols and phenolic acids, known for their antioxidant properties, as well as caffeic acid, squalenes, sterols and tocopherols1. It is recognized that omega-3 and omega-6 acids, polyphenols, squalenes and tocopherols are responsible for the preventive effects of the oil on hypertension, heart disease and possibly prostate cancer.
